There is something in
the nature of the universe that reacts to
everything each person thinks and most
especially to thoughts that are deeply
felt. We call it the Law of
Mind. Many people do not know this
yet, but being aware of it is invaluable
if one desires to succeed in taking
positive and constructive charge of ones
life. Awareness of this reactionary
state within the Mind, and learning how
to relate to it, provide a
resourcefulness for everything one might
do.

The Law of Mind reacts to
thoughts of insecurity by making a person
experience jeopardy. Why does it do
this? It is because it reacts to what we
believe about ourselves. In other words,
the Law of Mind is a servant, a very good
servant, for it acts with precision to do what we
expect. We cannot change this action any
more than we can force gravity to float our
bodies in the air. We can comply with
gravity by building airplanes, which have wings
that can be made to receive greater air pressure
beneath the wings to lift it and lesser air
pressure beneath the wings to cause its
descent. Compliance means to cooperate with
the laws of nature. Then, often in some
unforeseen way, those laws serve us as we desire.
The Law of Mind never
functions supernaturally anymore than the law of
gravity does. Yet there is something super
about nature. It is that universal laws
always act in accordance with nature; their
reliability can be trusted. When something
happens that appears to be a miracle, it is never
that nature has relinquished any of its
laws. Rather, at that time, the laws permit
such marvelous things to happen in ways that we
have only partially begun to understand.
Similarly, by complying with the Law of Mind we
will continually discover ways new to us that are
for our good.
The Law of Mind always
functions precisely as Jesus declared: It
is done unto us as we believe.
Gradually people are discovering this law and
using it. In comparison, let us remind
ourselves that gravity was unknown a few hundred
years ago. People would not have believed
us if we had tried to explain it to them
then. Those who were able to provide us
with this awareness, such as Copernicus and
Galileo, were terribly harassed and even greatly
threatened for the ideas that led to the law of
gravity as a basic fact of nature. Giordano
Bruno was burned at the stake in 1600 for his
contributions to this valuable
understanding. Today, many people are quite
ignorant of how it is that the Law of Mind is
subject to our thoughts, as Ernest Holmes taught
during this last century. Those who are
presently interested to look into this will find
it not only true, but also the means to
demonstrating a happy, successful, and healthy
life.
Another manner of reaction is
the vindictive way that many people react to
others when they do not like their
experiences. These kinds of reactions are
not beneficial but downright harmful, most
particularly to people who express them.
The Law of Mind reacts to our reactions by giving
us more and more of what we think we do not
desire. We are wise as we respond with
amazing kindness to others who act in ways we do
not think we like. This stops the cycle of
offensiveness. For those who must react
with vengeance there is a continual round of
hardships. On the other hand, for those of
us who return kindness when we feel hurt, a
growing consciousness of good living takes its
place. The Law of Mind makes it so.
It is within all of us to return good regardless
of what others do.
