Dismissing Fear

There is within everyone a disposition toward faith or fear.  Some people say that no one should be too trusting because others will take advantage.  However, those people who succeed and avoid trouble have been extraordinarily trusting.  They were rarely deceived.  What is this thing called faith or trust that enables success without one's being misled?  It is in the art of knowing that there is no place that God is not.

If we see the Christ or God within other persons who seem to be a threat, that consciousness provides us safety from and with them.  If we recognize that the divine is in every situation we face, something within us walks us through safely.  It feels as though we are taking risks, until we know deep inside that something honors our authority, and then nothing is risky - even when logic would tell us it is.  However, we must be able to feel very deeply within ourselves that we are guarded, guided, and empowered to do the thing we desire to experience.  This idea of feeling very deeply that a risk will work out for the best is a great tool, but if we fool ourselves the risk will become a disappointment.

One more thing must happen with us.  We must know that what we seek to do will not harm anyone including ourselves.  Unless we feel this deeply, fear is running our consciousness.

Fear is the result of not knowing there is a power greater than what we can see, a presence that lives deep within us and that is always for us.  Ordinary faith is not always enough to banish insecurity, guilt, and anxiety from our dispositions.  Even to have faith in God is not enough!  We must have the faith of God.  The faith of God occurs with us, as we believe that God is everywhere, and that nothing can hurt us unless we fail to share the faith God has about us.  Believing that God is never against us and is always for us, coupled with confidence in the perfect idea God has about us, is enough to know the faith of God.

If one believes that the world is a place of struggle between good and evil, faith cannot sufficiently replace fear.  We must be convinced that the Supreme Intelligence knows what He or She (or It) is doing, having allowed us to learn how to live by experiencing our many mistakes.  We have been given enough freedom to think for ourselves, and so we experiment with our behavior.  All of the time, deep within us a voice is giving us direction for happiness, safety, well-being, and success.  The big question is when are we going to trust that It will see us through all of our experiences, gradually developing wonderful lives because we learn to trust.  This trust is not naive: it simply knows there is no place in our lives from which God is absent.
